James Winberry

January 29, 1938 — July 28, 2014

James Deerwood Winberry, 76, a resident of Ozark passed away Monday, July 28, 2014 at Dale Medical Center.

Memorial services will be 11 am Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Steve King officiating. The family will receive friends from 10-11 am prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers are being accepted or memorial donations may be made to Ft. Rucker's Wounded Warriors.

Mr. Winberry was born January 29, 1938 in Parma, New Madrid County, Missouri and spent the early part of his life there. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he received the Purple Heart Award serving in the U.S. Army for over 21 years as an infantryman. Following his military career he worked in Civil Service as a locksmith at Ft. Rucker for 18 years. Mr. Winberry was of the Baptist Faith. He loved to sing and play the piano as well as other instruments he had learned to master. He enjoyed being challenged in various activities including speaking Spanish, bowling a perfect 300 game, playing golf, and the game of chess. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Edward and Ardona May Winberry; brothers, Willie Edward Winberry, Jr. and Bill Winberry; sisters, June Rice and Josey Young.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Sue Winberry; a son Jeffery Wilson Martha Winberry; a daughter Sherrie Ann Paul Wallace; grandchildren, Bradley Kayla Wallace, Brett Gwyn Wallace, and Erica Kate Josh Casey; a great-granddaughter Sarah Mae Wallace; a brother Shelby Evelyn Winberry; sisters, Shirley Don Heffner and Barbara Elsworth; his dear uncles, David Braddum and Glenn Braddum; numerous nieces and nephews.
