Janet Claffey Marsella

Janet Claffey Marsella, a resident of Dothan passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center, while doing what she loved – helping others. She was 60.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, January 15, 2010 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Jim Sanders officiating and Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 2346 W. Main St., Ste.3, Dothan, AL, to the Houston-Love Memorial Library Fund, 212 W. Burdeshaw St., Dothan, AL, 36303, or to the charity of one’s choice. Janet grew up in Staunton, Virginia. She began her teaching career in Danville, Virginia, where she met and married her husband of 35 years, Dr. Jerry Marsella. Janet was an active member of numerous civic and social organizations in Dothan and she was extremely generous with her time and energy. She was full of life, spirit, and devotion to her family; she worked endlessly to make her home and family members’ lives the very best. She loved to garden, cook, and sew.Survivors include her husband Dr. Jerry Marsella of Dothan; her sons John Marsella and his wife Brandy of Boulder, CO, Benjamin Marsella of Montgomery, AL; her brother Stephen Claffey and his wife Pat of Staunton, VA. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
