Janie G. Powell

Jane “Janie” Powell, 60, formerly of Dothan passed away Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Flowers Hospital.

rnFuneral and graveside services will be held 3 pm Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Sunset Memorial Park Funeral Home with Rev. Diane Kelly, Rev. Ray Kelly, and Rev. Tony Rosetta officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-3 pm prior to the service. rnJanie was born January 2, 1952 in Ozark, AL and resided there the early part of her life. She was a 1969 graduate of Carroll High School and a 1972 graduate of St. Margaret’s School of Nursing in Montgomery, AL. She moved to Dothan in the early 1970’s and was employed with Flowers Hospital for over 30 years until her retirement in 2009. Along with Dr. Griffin she was instrumental in the development of the EMT program at Wallace College where she was also an instructor. She attended Liberty United Methodist Church. Janie was preceded in death by her parents Julian and Annette Gamble. rnSurvivors include her husband Walter Powell of Dothan; daughters, Jennifer Carroll Powell of Dothan, AL and Melanie Annette Powell of Dothan; a grandson Bryce; a sister Julianne Gamble Kiger-Golden of Enterprise, AL; a brother-in-law Danny Sharon Powell of Wicksburg; nieces and nephews, Annette Carroll Kiger, James Andrew Kiger, Jeffery Alan Kiger, Elizabeth Rose Kiger, Brandy Devore, Brooke Powell. rnPallbearers will be James Kiger, Jeff Kiger, Donnie Minton, and Jason Coleman. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
