Jean Louise (Weissburg) Curtiss

September 21, 1940 — January 22, 2023

Enterprise

Jean Louise Curtiss passed away at her home on the morning of January 22, 2023. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, on September 21, 1940, to Allan A. Weissburg and Helen L. Weinberg.

She was a graduate of Niles Township High School and the National College of Education. She received her master's degree from Northwestern University.

She taught 4th and 5th grade at Madison Elementary School in Skokie, Illinois, for 14 years before her children were in college. Then, she and her husband, George, quit their jobs for a life of adventure on their 32' sailboat. They sailed up and down the Atlantic coast between the Chesapeake Bay and Ft. Lauderdale for the next fifteen years before making the transition to an RV. They travelled between their sons' homes in Texas and Alabama before giving up their vagabond ways for an apartment in Enterprise, Alabama. She adored her grandchildren, and almost all her travelling from then on was devoted to seeing them. Jean made many close friends in the Enterprise area, where she volunteered at an elementary school, Medical Center Enterprise, and SARCOA. She loved her family, her friends, and the stray cats that always greeted her under the balcony of her apartment.

She was predeceased by her husband, George Walter Curtiss.

She is survived by two sons, George Curtiss (Tammy) of Dothan, AL and Michael Curtiss (Katina) of Carlsbad, CA; five grandchildren, Ariana Johns (Adam), Jackie Curtiss Cox (Josh), Julia Lord (Matt), Jason Curtiss, and Abby Curtiss; four great-grandchildren, Parker Brown, Elle Johns, Mac Cox, and Emmy Johns; two brothers, Allan A. Weissburg, Jr. (Bernice) of Reston, VA and Jerry Weissburg (Sarah) of Richmond, VA; Sister-in-law Colleen Cassetty of Mt. Juliet, TN; and many other beloved relatives and friends.
