Jeffrey W. Garrett

Sgt. Jeffrey W. Garrett Dothan P.D., 47, a resident of Headland, Alabama passed away Monday, October 27, 2014 at a local hospital.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 31, 2014 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Norman Simmons and Chaplain Eddie Henderson officiating. Dothan Police Department Honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Sgt. Garrett was born March 26, 1967 in Abbeville, AL and was a 1985 graduate of Headland High School. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served for 4 years. Following his military career he was employed with the Dothan Police Department for over 20 years proudly attaining the rank of Sergeant. Jeff was an avid Alabama Football Fan and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He served as a baseball umpire at various high schools in the Wiregrass Area and in his spare time enjoyed cooking and entertaining for his friends and family. He attended Bethlehem Baptist Church in Headland.

Sgt. Garrett was preceded in death by his father, Charles Edward Garrett, and his sister, Vickie Rose Garrett.

Survivors include his wife Michelle Garrett; his son, Jacob "Chipper" Samantha Garrett; his step-son, Kaleb Johnson; his daughters, Victoria Garrett and Rachel Kyle James Garrett; his step-daughter Claire Johnson; his grandchildren, McKenna Glover and Brayden James; his mother Tonya Garrett McLean; his brothers, Charlie Mulachai, Jesse Garrett, and Charles Jennifer McGriff; his sister, Toni James Cunningham; several nieces and nephews.
