Jennie Lee Mayes

Jennie Mayes, 79, of Ashford died Monday, May 9, 2011 at a local hospital.

rnServices will be held 11 am Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Ashford with Pastor Jerome Dudley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 10-11 am at the church prior to the service. rnJennie Lee Mayes was born October 18, 1931 in Henry County to the late Hosie and Hurley Miller. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Mayes; one son, Joseph Mayes, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Ann Mayes; granddaughter, Shemekia Mayes; two brothers, Ivey Earl and Hosie Miller. rnJennie Lee was married to Mr. Joe Mayes to this union two sons were born, Emory Mayes of Ashford, AL and Charlie Mayes of Oakdale, LA; three sisters Willie B. Cook Sylvester of Ashford, AL, Carrie Robinson and Betty Hamilton both of Texas; eight grandchildren, Niatacha Berry Perry of Montgomery, AL, Kim McKinny of Florida, Ottaven Mayes of Bessmer, AL, Tiffany Alford of Dothan, Clifford Rhonda Bolden of Ashford, Jatavis Crittenden of Dothan, Rodney Farrier and Andre’ Farrier of Dothan; five great-grandchildren; a loving Aunt Viola Miller; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including a special neighbor Charlie Benton. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
