Jesse Gregory Bybee

Jesse Gregory Bybee, known affectionately as Jesse to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2024, in Dothan, Alabama, at the age of 67. Born on June 19, 1957, in Birmingham, Alabama, Jesse's journey through life was marked by adventure, kindness, and courage.

Jesse's early years were spent in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he attended high school before pursuing higher education at the University of New Mexico. There, he earned a Bachelor's degree in English, a subject that would forever remain close to his heart. His love for literature was only matched by his passion for adventure, which led him down an exciting career path.

Before settling into his role as a truck driver with Crete Carrier in 2005, Jesse's adventurous spirit took him to the skies as a pilot for medical evacuations in Salt Lake City, Utah. This courageous work displayed his dedication to helping others in their most critical moments. Jesse also served his country with honor and pride in the National Guard, a testament to his unwavering commitment to service.

Jesse's life was not only defined by his work but also by his love for his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 6 years, Macy Bybee, and a loving father to his son, Ryan Bybee. His family circle expanded to include his stepsons, Daniel and Joseph Brown, and stepdaughters, Mysti Buryk and Summer Ellis. Jesse's legacy continues with his 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, who will remember him for his boundless love and the joy he brought to their lives.

He was a cherished brother to Stewart Bybee (Carol), Steven Bybee (Kathy), and Daniel Bybee (Beth). Although his parents, Gary and Francis Bybee, preceded him in death, the values they instilled in Jesse lived on through his actions and the lives he touched.

Jesse and his wife, Macy, shared a common profession as truck drivers, a career that suited Jesse's love for the open road and the sense of freedom it brought. He was a proud Republican and was known for his strong work ethic, a trait that earned him respect and admiration from all who knew him.

Despite being born in Alabama, Jesse spent the majority of his life in the Rockies, where he embraced the rugged beauty and spirit of the West. His interests reflected his diverse experiences and the depth of his character. He was known for his adventurous nature, whether navigating the skies or the vast American highways.

Those who knew Jesse would describe him as kind and courageous. He was the kind of person who would go out of his way to help a friend or even a stranger. His adventurous soul led him to explore the unknown, while his kind heart made him a beacon of light for his family and community.

Jesse's life was a vivid tapestry woven with love, service, and adventure. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by the stories shared by those who loved him. He leaves behind a legacy of courage, a spirit of kindness, and a reminder to all to embrace life's journey with open arms.

A celebration of Jesse’s life will be held, September 21, 2024, at 2pm in the Sunset Chapel with Pastor Ed Boyd officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. He’ll be laid to rest in the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Midland City, Alabama.
