Jewell Alice (Portwood) Henderson

Jewell Alice Henderson, a resident of Dothan, AL, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2023. She was 88 years old.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11 am on Friday, January 27, 2023 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Keith Frith officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 10-11 am.

Jewell was born on March 22, 1934 in Ariton, Alabama and lived there the early years of her life. She would meet and marry William Henderson, and they would begin their lives together while he was stationed with the Air Force in Biloxi, Mississippi. Jewell had a green thumb and loved to work in her garden. She never met a stranger and because of her generous and giving spirit found joy in giving gifts to her family and friends. Jewell was a member of Harvest Church.

Jewell was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Annie Portwood, her husband, William Henderson, her siblings, Columbus Portwood, Clifton Portwood, Cecil Portwood, and Arizona Burke.

Survivors include her daughter, Juanita (Craig) Lobaugh of Dothan; her son, Jeffery Henderson of Dothan; her grandchildren, Cynthia (Jamie) Holderfield, Justin (Magen) Lobaugh, Alexa (Brantley) Biggs of Oklahoma City, Kirstin Henderson of Dothan, Brandon Henderson of Dothan, Braden (Jordyn) Henderson of Dothan, Jackson Henderson; her 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
