Dothan

Joan Allen Conrad Creel, a beacon of selfless love and faith, left the Earth to be in the presence of the Lord on June 15, 2024, in Dothan, Alabama, surrounded by the warmth of her family's love. Born on July 3, 1931, in Cowarts, Alabama, Joan's life was a testament to her loving nature and her unwavering dedication to her family, her faith, and her community.

Joan was the cherished wife of the late Thomas Jefferson Creel, Jr., with whom she shared 38 years of marriage, beginning their lifelong partnership on Valentine's Day, 1955. Together, they created a legacy of love and commitment that continued to flourish through their children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Norman Conrad and Lydia Reese Thornell Conrad, her parents-in-law, Thomas Jefferson Creel, Sr. and Hazel Hurst Jackson Creel, and her siblings, Mandy Virginia Durham, Mary Kate (Ralph) Bermudez, Norman Thornell (Ann) Conrad, and infant brother Gerald Conrad.

Joan's memory will be forever cherished by her surviving siblings, Myra (Jack) Lindley and Patricia Ann Conrad, who remember her as a pillar of strength and compassion. Her legacy lives on through her adoring children, Candyce Conrad Creel (Timothy) McCown, Thomas Jefferson Creel, III, and Victor Gabriel Creel, and her beloved grandchildren, Christopher Chase McCown and Christiana (Tea) Grace McCown, who will cherish many loving memories.

A proud graduate of Ashford High School's Class of 1949, Joan's thirst for knowledge and her passion for helping others led her to attend Moody Hospital School of Nursing and later the Mobile Infirmary School of Nursing, where she was honored with the Florence Nightingale Award and served as the Senior Class President of 1952. Joan's illustrious career in nursing began at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, LA, and spanned several institutions including Florida State Hospital, Moody Hospital in Pediatrics, and the Alabama Department of Public Health from 1952-1958.

Joan's dedication to her profession was evident in her roles at the office of Drs. Flowers, Haughton, and Jones from 1958-1986, as an American Red Cross Nurse in 1964, at the Immediate Care Center from 1986-1994, and as a Nursing Supervisor at Westside Terrace from 1994-1996. Throughout her career, Joan's caring heart and expert hands brought comfort and healing to countless individuals, earning her the respect and admiration of both her colleagues and patients.

Joan's commitment to service extended beyond her professional life. She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Dothan, AL, where her faith-filled life inspired many. Her involvement with the Red Hat Society brought joy and camaraderie, as she shared laughter and friendship with fellow members.

Joan's life was characterized by her loving nature, her selfless service to others, and her deep-rooted faith. She was a guiding light to all who had the privilege of knowing her, leaving a legacy of kindness and generosity that will continue to resonate in the hearts of her family and community.

As we bid farewell to Joan Allen Conrad Creel, we celebrate a life lived with grace and purpose. Her memory will be treasured, her lessons cherished, and her spirit will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who were blessed to know her. Joan's journey on earth has ended, but her story of love, faith, and compassion will be told for generations to come.
