Joann Butts, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 24, 2023, in Dothan, Alabama, after an extended illness. Born on February 26, 1947, in Lumpkin, Georgia, Joann was known for her unwavering Christian Faith, her adventurous spirit, faith-filled life, and thoughtful nature.

Joann is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Pairris Butts; their loving daughter, Letha Madison; cherished grandchildren, Brittney and Ernest; adored great-grandchildren, Trinity, Serenity, and Quentin; caring brothers, Robert Feagins and Bryan Wilson; and dear sisters, Dorothy Diane Mills, Dorothy Marshall, Elouise Wilson, and Annie Ruth Feagins. Joann was preceded in death by her parents, Julia Mae Feagins and Willie Roy Wilson, Sr.; brothers, Walter Person, Willie Roy Wilson, Jr., and Rickey Feagins; and sisters, Barbara Wilson, Betty Screws, and Sabrina Salters. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who will fondly remember her.

Joann's career spanned over three decades, working with Customized Tailoring in Cincinnati, Ohio, for 32 years. After moving with her family to Dothan in 2000, she became an active member of the First Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Deaconess Board and was in charge of the church's anniversary events, including arranging and cooking for the celebrations. Her love for cooking was evident in the joy she found in feeding her family, with her collard greens and potato salad being their favorite dishes.

An avid traveler, Joann loved to explore the world with her family, with her favorite trips being cruises to destinations such as Alaska, St. Thomas Island, and Hawaii. She was lovable, giving, and always able to speak her mind. Her passion for interior decorating shone through her enjoyment of watching HGTV and reading magazines that showcased beautiful interiors. As the late Maya Angelou once said, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Joann's warmth, generosity, and love will be remembered by all who knew her.

A celebration of Joann's life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at First Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. B. K. Marshall officiating. She will be laid to rest in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, Alabama, on Monday, June 5, 2023. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 9:30-11 am.

Joann Butts' legacy will live on through the memories and lives of the many people she touched throughout her 76 years. Her adventurous, faith-filled, and thoughtful nature will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
