Joe DeVane, 78 of Dothan passed away Tuesday August 20, 2013 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 pm Friday, August 23, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mart Gray and Rev. Bob Gross officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1pm until 2:30pm Friday. Mr. DeVane was born in New Brockton, AL on August 26, 1934 and lived there and Clayton, AL the early years of his life. He was a 1956 graduate of Auburn University API where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Mr. DeVane was commander of the New Brockton and Headland National Guard for 14 years. He resided in Atlanta prior to moving to Dothan. Mr. DeVane served as executive vice president of Dorsey Trailers for 35 years and was currently working with Wabash National Trailer Corporation. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Dothan.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Elizabeth Prescott DeVane; his two daughters, Dana DeVane Kinney and Meredith DeVane Michael J. McLendon; his four grandchildren, Erin Elizabeth Kinney, Mary Ashley Kinney, Jackson DeVane McLendon, and Elizabeth Louise McLendon; his brother, Charles R. DeVane; his sister, Penny DeVane Olen Donaldson; several loving cousins; 8 nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Rufus Lee, Joe Bailey, Burl Lane, Mack Dove, Mackey Sellers, George Grider, Paul Morrow, Gale Wickersham, and Olen Donaldson.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Green Valley Club, the First Baptist Church Men’s Sunday School Class, and Sam Collier, Bob Zurbachen, Darv Habben, Terry Bertrand, Grady Thomas, John W. Gunter and Paul Williams.
