John Asher

March 29, 1944 — June 16, 2019

John Robert Asher entered eternal rest on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin on March 29, 1944 to the late William and Vivian Asher. He graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School, class of 1962, and married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Elizabeth May Asher on July 30, 1966. Together, they were a perfect example of true love that lasted 53 years. John was a devoted, loving husband and proud father. He was a man with a quick wit, full of perfect advice. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed bowling, hunting, and coaching. He also loved to spend time boating on Lake Michigan with his family. He always had home improvement projects to complete, both at his house and numerous projects at his children's homes. He was an honorable man, full of integrity. He lead by example, remained humble and although he was a quiet man, his few words spoke volumes. He is survived by his adored wife of 53 years, Elizabeth May Asher; three children Marty (Tracie) Asher, Michael (Cally) Asher, and Mary Pat (Lee) Peterson; nine grandchildren Haley-Marie and Orion Asher, Sladon, Shylee, and Shaylyn Asher, and Luke, Savannah, Miles, and Sarah Beth Peterson; one sister, Sue (Frank) Carmody, one brother Steve (Donna) Asher, and one sister-in-law, Barb Asher; and a host of extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ken Asher. A memorial service will be held at a later date in his hometown of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary's School, Sacred Heart of Jesus High School or RIFA of Jackson, all located in Jackson, Tennessee.
