John Wayne Chappell, 71, of Dothan passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at his residence.
Funeral services will be 3 pm Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Stan Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6pm until 8pm Wednesday.

Mr. Chappell was born March 7, 1942 in Houston County and he lived in Dothan all of his life. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp having served for three years. Mr. Chappell was employed in electric line construction for many years until his retirement in 1988. He owned and operated Holiday Spectacular Park and was known as the “Fire Starter” during the Christmas season. Mr. Chappell was a member of New Beginning Church and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
Mr. Chappell was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dollie Chappell; his sisters, Evelyn Cooley and Willie Pearl Hughes; his brothers, Herman Chappell, Raymond Chappell and Ross Chappell.
Survivors include Maxine Chappell of Dothan; a son Stanley Chappell Kim; two daughters, Cheri Spann Chris and Cindy Crowley Jason; five grandchildren, Brett, Lilly and Lydia Crowley, Sierra and John Christopher Spann and Abbigal Amyx; two sisters Christene Barb and Faye Martin; and several nieces and nephews including two special nieces, Darinda Walker and Carla Shea Ammons.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Wallace Reynolds, Donny Taber, Scotty Jordan, Wesley Crowley, Walter Waters, Chris Gray, Willie Stewart and Miles Scott.
