John Edward Grimsley, Sr., a resident of Gordon passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 61.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Greater Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. J. Curtis Harvey Jr. of Center Baptist Church in Newville and Rev. R. Paul Hollman officiating. Burial will follow in the Jerusalem Community Church Cemetery in Gordon with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Flowers are being accepted or memorial donations may be made to Covenant Hospice, 2855 Ross Clark Circle, Dothan, AL, 36301. John was born on July 22, 1948 in Houston County and graduated from the Essie Grimsley High School in Ashford, AL. After completing high school John started working at Dairy Fresh and retired on June 2, 2008 after 40 years of dedicated service. John was preceded in death by his mother Beatrice Hall-Grimsley, an aunt Goldie M. Perry, and uncles Grant and Ernest Grimsley.rnSurvivors include his wife of 40 years Edith Glasgow-Grimsley; daughters, Kimberly Dawn Grimsley-Harvey and her husband Curtis, Karrion Nicole Nikki Kincey; a son John Edward Grimsley Jr. and his wife Summers; his father Gaines Grimsley Sr. of Dothan; 4 sisters, Minister Mella Grimsley of Mira Loma, CA, Josephine Stundivant and her husband Robert of South Hill, VA, Hattie Grimsley of Chicago, IL, Julia Miller and her husband Leslie of Dothan; 2 brothers, Gaines Grimsley Jr. of Dothan, Curtis Grimsley and his wife Rosalyn of Dothan; 8 grandchildren, James Curtis Harvey III, Ja′kel Harvey, Jireh Harvey, Jaylen Grimsley, Emmanuel Kincey, Nicholas West, Jakia Grimsley, Rayna Grimsley all of Dothan; an aunt Johnnie Coleman and her husband Leroy of Dothan; an uncle Hubert Grimsley of Dothan; several nieces and nephews and a special friend Johnny C.
