John Arthur Hayles

June 1, 1944 — March 26, 2017

John Arthur Hayles, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at a local hospital. He was 72.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Denton Road United Methodist Church with Brother Paul McVay officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 10-11 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Denton Road United Methodist Church, 2410 Denton Rd., Dothan, AL 36303.

Mr. Hayles was born on June 1, 1944 in Eliska, Alabama and lived there the early years of his life. He graduated in 1962 from J. U. Blacksher High School in Uriah, AL. Mr. Hayles served in the US Army for 3 years, the US National Guard for 20 years, and was employed with the State of Alabama Bridge Maintenance for 36 years. Mr. Hayles was a Tribal Member of Poarch Creek Indians and Denton Road United Methodist Church, Dothan, AL.

Mr. Hayles was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother.

Survivors include his wife, Vera Hayles; his children, Craig (Charla) Hayles, Goodway, AL, Jeff (Michelle) Hayles, Monroeville, AL, and Kim (Scott) Cornett, Demopolis, AL; his step-sons, Gary (Kay) Mattox, Headland, AL and Greg Mattox, Headland, AL; his 6 grandchildren; his 4 great-grandchildren; and his 4 sisters, 3 brothers.
