John Auston Jordan

February 4, 1952 — July 25, 2023

Skipperville

John "Johnny" Auston Jordan was born on February 4, 1952, in Cocoa Beach, Florida, and passed away on July 25, 2023, in Skipperville, Alabama, following a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. Johnny was a man of courage, generosity, and adventure, embodying these attributes in his every endeavor.

Johnny was the beloved husband of Teresa Jordan for 39 wonderful years. He was the proud father to their two sons, John A. Jordan Jr. and Michael (Michelle) Jordan. Johnny was also the cherished brother of Steve (Connie) Jordan and Hank (Cindy) Jordan. He held a special place in his heart for his sisters-in-law, Patricia (Steve) Mathews, and Lisa (Jeff) Fowler as well as his special cousin, Cliff Lane. Also surviving him are several nieces, nephews, and dear friends, Gary and Melinda Luther and Jerrell and Carla Helms. Johnny was predeceased by his parents, Henry A. Jordan Jr. and Mabel Lane Jordan.

A 1971 graduate of Dothan High School, Johnny began his career with The Dothan Fire Department in March 1972. He made history as one of the first five paramedics with the department in December 1975. Over his 30-year-long career, he touched countless lives and protected his community with unwavering dedication. Johnny retired as Battalion Chief in December 2001, leaving an indelible mark on the department and the community he served. His work ethic was unmatched, continuing to provide maintenance for Parkview and Whatley Square Apartments for over ten years following his retirement.

Johnny was an advocate for wildlife management and a good steward of the land. His love for the outdoors was evident in his founding membership of The West Fork Hunting Club in 1985. He adored making memories with a multitude of family and friends through this club, further showcasing his adventurous spirit.

Family was at the heart of Johnny's life. He cherished sharing meals with his loved ones, creating an atmosphere of warmth and affection. His generosity extended beyond his family, reaching out to friends and community members alike.

Courageous, generous, and adventurous are words that only begin to describe Johnny. He was a man who lived by the words of Winston Churchill, "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." Johnny's life was a testament to this quote, as he continuously gave of himself to his family, friends, and community.

A celebration of Johnny's life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lionel "LC" Green officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday one hour prior to the services and welcome family and friends to the Sunset Reception Center immediately following the services. The family also suggests that friends feel free to wear camouflage, fire department, or Alabama shirts. Flowers are being accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, www.t2t.org. If you can, be someone's miracle and donate to your community blood bank.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Scott McAllister and his staff and DaySprings hospice for their care and compassion during their time of need.

John Auston "Johnny" Jordan was a man of honor and dignity, leaving a lasting legacy of love and service. His life was a beacon of hope, courage, and generosity, inspiring those around him to live with the same dedication and spirit. Johnny will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
