John “J. T.” Radney, Jr.

August 26, 1930 — April 10, 2021

John "J. T." Radney, Jr. passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 10, 2021 after a long illness in a Huntsville Nursing Home. Mr. Radney was a lifelong resident of Dothan, AL until he became sick and was taken to Huntsville to be with his daughter, Lisa. Mr. Radney was the son of John and Ruby Radney. He was 90 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Willis officiating. Interment will follow in Ashford City Cemetery with Sunset Memorial Park directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 12-2 pm. Flowers are being accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, www.act.alz.org/donate.

Mr. Radney was born on August 26, 1930 in Ashford, AL and lived there the early years of his life. He started in the baseball program at Doug Tew Park as a coach in 1962, and he coached for nine years. Mr. Radney served on the Board of Directors for Dixie Youth Baseball at Doug Tew for six years and was elected as District Director of District 6, Dixie Youth Baseball of Alabama in 1971. He served in that capacity throughout the 1999 baseball season. Mr. Radney was employed with the Department of Leisure Services in 1976 as a Baseball Supervisor at the Doug Tew Ball Park and at the end of the season that year held the position of Maintenance Supervisor and served as Manager of Rip Hewes Stadium for more than 20 years. Mr. Radney retired from the City of Dothan in 1998 and from Dixie Youth Baseball in 1999. In 2010, Mr. Radney was inducted into the Wiregrass Hall of Fame.

Mr. Radney was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Frances Radney, and by his sister, Tommie Nell.

Survivors include his children, John G. (Lisa) Radney, Lisa (Howard) Waters, and Luan Stevens; his loving grandchildren, Laura (Luke) Boatright, Betsy Lester, Logan (Jon) Richardson, Hannah (Kyle) Edwards, Blake Stevens, and Emiley Stevens; his great-grandchildren, Aiden Lester, Ethan Lester, Luke Boatright, Jr., and Ella Frances Edwards.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Jeff Skeen, Cliff Jeffcoat, Chris Hodge, Ashley Whitehurst, Jason Whitehurst, and Blake Stevens.
