John Allen Sanders, a resident of Dothan passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at a local hospital. He was 87 years old. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Greystone United Methodist Church with Rev. Coley Holloway and Rev. Teresa Seevers officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Flowers are being accepted or memorial donations may be made to Greystone United Methodist Church. Mr. Sanders was born September 6, 1931 in Houston County and lived the early part of his life in Rehobeth. He married the love of his life on June 19, 1953 and moved to Dothan. He received his theological degree from Emory University served as a bi-vocational pastor in several churches in the Wiregrass area for over 60 years and as a truck driver. He loved to work in his garden and grew snap beans, tomatoes and potatoes. He never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face. He was a member of Greystone United Methodist Church where he served as a visitation minister. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Glenda Laquitta Sanders; son, Daryl Sanders; daughter, Debra (Larry) Waters; grandchildren, Andy Waters and Adam Waters; 9 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Allen Outlaw.
