John Simera

July 26, 1929 — May 30, 2019

John Simera, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at a local hospital. He was 89. Funeral services will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, June 2, 2019 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dennis Singletary and Rev. Alan Bryan officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-3 pm. Mr. Simera was born on July 26, 1929 in Steubenville, OH and lived there the early years of his life. He joined the US Army and served in the Korean War; he would return home in 1953. Mr. Simera was stationed at Ft. Rucker where he met the love of his life, Anne Seay Simera. They have resided in Dothan since 1954. Mr. Simera was employed with Hudson Office Supply for over 38 years until his retirement in 2001. Mr. Simera was a loving family man and was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren. He loved Alabama football and enjoyed fishing. Mr. Simera was a longtime, dedicated member of Cloverdale Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School, was the Sunday School Superintendent, served as trustee, served as a Deacon, and on numerous committees. Mr. Simera was preceded by his immigrant parents from Sicily, Louis and Rose Simera. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Anne Simera; his son, Louis (Selena) Simera; his daughter, Sheri (Marty) Roney; his 5 grandchildren, Savanna Simera, Grant Simera, Anson Simera, Renee (Tim) Ingram, and John Calvin (Brandy) Roney; his 5 great-grandchildren, Anslee Sawyer, Britten Sawyer, Conleigh Sawyer, Will Ingram, and Michaela Roney; his brother, Samuel (Margi) Simera; his sisters, Dorothy Mecca, Louise Rocini, and Josphine Froats; and several nieces and nephews. Burial Date June 2, 2019 Funeral services will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, June 2, 2019 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dennis Singletary and Rev. Alan Bryan officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-3 pm.
