John Eldridge Thompson

March 30, 1930 — December 8, 2017

John Eldridge Thompson, a resident of Pansey, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was 87.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. Ricky Plummer officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Mr. Thompson was born on March 30, 1930 in Miami, Florida and spent the early years of his life there and moved to Houston county in 1966. He was employed as a pipe fitter for over 50 years and retired in 1989 as a member of the Pipefitter’s Local Union #52. He loved playing the guitar especially Bluegrass music. He and his musician buddies met and played at the Dupree School every Thursday night for over 40 years. Mr. Thompson was a member of Bethel Baptist Church at the time of his death and for over 40 years he served as Deacon at several other Baptist churches in the area.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Jane Thompson; his daughter, Alice (Wayne) Whitman; his sons, Tim (Debbie) Thompson, Joe (Paula) Thompson, and Jimmy (Connie) Thompson; 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Dempsey Seay Sunday School Class.
