Johnny Ray Bond, 86, of Newton, formerly of the Bay Springs Community, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2020. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Union Primitive Baptist Church, Midland City with Elder Eugene Conner, Elder Jim Webb, and Brother Billy Champion officiating. Interment will follow in Bay Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Union Primitive Baptist Church on Saturday from 12-1 pm. Johnny was born on February 9, 1934 in Houston County and was a graduate of Wicksburg High School. Johnny worked for the United States Postal Service until retirement. He enjoyed gardening, spending time with family and friends. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, J. J. Bond and Ethel Mae Bond, his sons, Danny Ray Bond and James Gregory Bond. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Phyllis; his daughter, Jill (Johnny) Champion; his step-daughter, Susan (Ken) Wallace; his step-son, Chuck (Maria) Graham; his daughter-in-law, Lisa Bond; his grandchildren, Meshell (Roger) Plouffe, Michael Bond, Mandy Bond, Haley (Heath) Mims, Heather (Keith) Shippey, Billy (Sunni) Champion, Joshua Champion, and Elliott Jones; his 9 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Billy Joe (Ouida) Bond, Doyle Bond, Bo Bond, and Lynn Bond; and several nieces and nephews. Serving as active pallbearers will be Billy Champion, Joshua Champion, Elliott Jones, Heath Mims, Keith Shippey, and Scott Beumer. Burial Date February 15, 2020 Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Union Primitive Baptist Church, Midland City with Elder Eugene Conner, Elder Jim Webb, and Brother Billy Champion officiating.
