Joni Sharon Darcangelo

Joan S. “Joni” Darcangelo, a resident of Dothan passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2010 at her residence. She was 69.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Father Patrick Gallagher officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Wiregrass Chapter of the Humane Society, P.O. Box 1045, Dothan, AL, 36302.rnMrs. Darcangelo was born on March 21, 1941 in Washington, PA. She graduated from the Bethlehem-Center High School in Fredericktown, PA and was employed as a buyer for Gimbels Department Store in Pittsburgh for over 15 years. She was an avid gardener and loved cooking and spending time with her family. She has resided in Dothan for the past 20 years and was a faithful Catholic and a member of St. Mary and Ann Catholic Church in Marianna, PA. Mrs. Darcangelo was preceded in death by her father John Knizner, her sister Marian Harris, and her brother Edward Knizner.rnSurvivors include her husband Andrew Darcangelo of Dothan; a son Dr. Mark Riser and his wife Dania and son Connor of Cary, NC; a daughter Heather Mayo and her husband Scott and their children Mitchel, Logan and Presley of Dothan; her mother Mary Knizner of California, PA; brothers, John Knizner of Cincinnati, OH, Joe Knizner of Marianna, PA, Franklin Knizner of Marianna, PA; a sister Catherine Hickman of Cleveland, OH; several nieces and nephews also survive.
