Joseph Rudolph (Rudy) Culbreth

January 1, 1931 — November 18, 2020

Joseph Rudolph "Rudy" Culbreth, known as "Big Daddy" to so many, a resident of Dothan, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 18, 2020. He was 89 years old.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2020, at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery in Columbia, AL with Rev. Billy Rich and Rev. James Culbreth officiating.

Mr. Culbreth was born on January 1, 1931 in Columbia, AL. He spent his early years of life there and was a graduate of Houston County High School and Troy State University with a B. S. degree in Music Education. He was the Band Director at Wilcox County High School in Camden, AL. He then became a salesman for various companies selling band instruments to new band students in the Tri-state area. After retirement he volunteered as a bailiff with Judge Steensland at the Houston County Courthouse.

Rudy was a member of Southside Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Choir member, Men's Ministry Director, and served on numerous committees.

He is preceded in death by two wonderful wives, Doris Prather Culbreth for 46 years and Lanette Kirkland Culbreth for 10 years, his parents, Rev. Edward McCoy Culbreth and his wife, Ollie Mae Webb Culbreth, five brothers, Edward M. Culbreth, Jr., Bunyon W. Culbreth, J. French Culbreth, James Olaff Culbreth, Thomas B. Culbreth and two sisters, Frances Culbreth Odom, and Betty Culbreth.

Rudy is survived by one son, Rev. James (Suzanne) Culbreth; two daughters, Geri Williams and Judy (Lynn) Brown; two grandsons, Drew Brown and Will Williams; seven granddaughters, Bethany (Joseph) Margavion, Jordyn (David) Farris, Lee (David) Jacobs, Kelly (Matt) Clayton, Kaelyn Williams, Madison Williams, and Rose Brown; three great grandsons, George Margavio, Thomas Farris, and Cole Jacobs; three great granddaughters, Taylor Jacobs, Addy Clayton, and Grace Ann Margavio; two brothers, Frank (Jenny) Culbreth and Gerald (Linda) Culbreth; three sister-in-law's, Ginny Culbreth, Gloria Culbreth, and Beverly Culbreth; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2020, at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery in Columbia, AL with Rev. Billy Rich and Rev. James Culbreth officiating.
