Joseph Frank Kozlowski, known affectionately as Joseph to his loved ones, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025, in Crestview, Florida. Born into this world on January 22, 1937, in Buffalo, New York, Joseph's journey through life was marked by courage, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to his family and country.
A proud veteran, Joseph joined the US Army as a young man and became an original member of the 11th Airborne Paratrooper unit during the Korean War. For his service, he was honored with the Korean Peace Medal, a testament to his bravery and dedication to peace. Following his military service, Joseph channeled his hardworking spirit into a career as a welder at a steel plant in New York, where his skill and dedication were well respected by his colleagues.
Joseph's life was a testament to the power of love and family. He was a loving husband to his wife of 63 years, Thelma T. Kozlowski, who preceded him in death. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including their children Koreen (Tony) Scalfaro, Karolee Vaughan, Kandi Kozlowski, and Joseph Kozlowski, II. He was a cherished grandfather to Samantha, Amanda, Caitlyn, Johnny, and Erica, and a doting great-grandfather to Alyssa Rose, Weston, Evelynn, Anthony, Ryan, and Kaitlyn. Joseph's legacy of love will continue to flourish through them.
Those who knew Joseph will remember him as a man who loved life and lived it to the fullest. His interests were as varied as they were passionate. As a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter, he shared a camaraderie with fellow veterans, offering support and friendship. Joseph's love for the outdoors was evident to all who joined him in his favorite pastimes: fishing, hunting, and simply enjoying nature. His home in Enterprise, Alabama, where he lived for 25 years, was always adorned with bird feeders, reflecting his love for birds and the joy they brought him.
A man of faith, Joseph was a devoted member of St. Johns Catholic Church in Enterprise. His beliefs were a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his actions and providing comfort in times of need.
Joseph's presence could light up a room. Known for his love of conversation, he could engage with anyone on any topic, always leaving them with a smile. His caring and generous spirit was palpable, and it is no surprise that the words loving, generous, and courageous are those that best describe him.
As we bid farewell to Joseph, we are reminded of the words of the great General Douglas McArthur, "Old soldiers never die, they just fade away". Joseph gave much to his family, his friends, and his country, and his life was indeed a rich tapestry of giving.
A Graveside service with military honors will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at Sunset Memorial Park Pavilion. The family will receive friends in the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday from 12-1 pm.
While we mourn the loss of such a remarkable man, we also celebrate the extraordinary life he led. Joseph's influence and love will forever be a beacon for his family and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His stories, laughter, and wisdom will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Joseph's family takes comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with his beloved Thelma and that his spirit will continue to watch over them from above. As we say goodbye to Joseph Frank Kozlowski, we hold tight to the memories and the love he shared, which will forever be a part of us. May he rest in peace, knowing that his legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
