Joyce Barkley Dotson, a resident of Gordon, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2019 at a local hospital. She was 76. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Friday, June 21, 2019 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Cecil Condrey. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5-7 pm. Mrs. Dotson was born on November 20, 1942 in Dothan and lived here all her life. She was a graduate of Dothan High School and worked at Ft. Rucker as a writer and editor for 35 years before her retirement in 1995. She loved animals, especially her puppies, Harley and Bella. Mrs. Dotson enjoyed the outdoors, crappie fishing at Lake Seminole, she loved to drive the boat while her family water skied, she loved riding horses at rodeo's and being a judge for Quarter Horse events. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, James W. Dotson; her son, Jeffry Dotson (James C. Rodgers); her daughter, Jennifer D. Bradshaw; her granddaughter, Jordyn Bradshaw; her brother, Pete (Sarah) Barkley; her nephews, Jackie (Becky) Barkley, Jimmy (Martha) Barkley, and Jason (Mary Beth) Barkley; and lots of grand puppies.
