Julia Mae Trant

June 9, 1929 — August 16, 2014

On Saturday, August 16, 2014, Julia Mae Lewis Trant, 85, went home to be with the Lord. She was the daughter of Charles A. and Rilla Y. Lewis. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband of 62 years, Jason H. Trant. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Charles A. and Clara M. Lewis, her two daughters and their husbands, Carol T. and Larry S. Dean of Dothan, and Susan T. and David R. Baird, of Birmingham, Alabama. She also has four grandchildren, John-David and Emily B. Parkman of Dothan, Lauren and Alan J. Babcock of Daphne, Alabama, John T. Baird of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and David T. Baird of  Argenton, France. She also has four great-grandchildren, Adelaide Addie Julia and Samuel Henry Babcock of Daphne, Alabama, and Liam Paul and Landrie Kate Parkman of Dothan.

Julia Trant was the Deputy Register and then the Circuit Clerk of the 20th Judicial Circuit for over 30 years. She was a Charter Member of the Houston County Legal Secretaries Association, the Alabama Association of Circuit Clerks and Registers, an Honorary Member of the Alabama Judicial College Faculty Committee, and was appointed by Chief Justice C. C. Torbert to the State Judicial System Personnel Appeals Board, the Judicial Forms Committee and the Judicial Computer Committee. She was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Dothan, and a charter member of the Wiregrass Civic Band and the Mid-Century Study Club.

She was a graduate of Dothan High School, attended Auburn University, and attended Troy University, the Alabama Judicial College at Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and was a presenter at many programs sponsored by the Alabama Judicial College.

The family would like to thank the kind nurses, social workers, and staff of AlaCare and the three sitters who so faithfully took care of our mother for four and a half years: Barbara Harper, Dianne Reynolds, and Dorothy Pearson, and her faithful friends of the Austin Sunday School Class.

Funeral services will be 11am Monday, August 18, 2014 at First Baptist Church Dothan with Dr. Johnny Fain officiating. Burial will follow in Dothan City Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 10-11 am prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Library, 300 W. Main Street, Dothan, AL, or to the Alzheimer's Resource Center, P.O. Box 1170, Dothan, AL, 36302.
