Kay Fears

June 19, 1952 — January 31, 2015

Kay Fears, 62, a resident of Dothan passed away Saturday, January 31, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her family and friends.

Funeral services will be 11 am Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Goodwin, Rev. Joe Patterson, Rev. Robert Fears, and Rev. Philip Harrelson officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 5 pm until 7 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Fears was born June 19, 1952 in Opp, Alabama and she lived the early years of her life in Florida, Michigan, and Alabama.  She resided in Dothan since 1972 and was employed as a Registered Nurse for many years at both SAMC, Flowers Hospital, and Extendicare.  Mrs. Fears was a member of the United Pentecostal Church.

Mrs. Fears was known for her hospitality.  She never met a stranger and was always willing to open her door and welcome in another “friend”.  Over the years she hosted many families that moved in to the area and could not make it home for the holidays.  She never shied away from the opportunity to serve others.  She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Frances Butler, her sister, Grace Coulson, and her brothers Richard and Gary Butler.

Survivors include her husband James Fears; her son, Rev. David Shannon Goodwin; her daughters, Tracy Rick Littlefield and Wendy Richardson; her three step-sons, Rev. Robert Jamie Fears, Tim Fears, and Brian Natalie Fears; sixteen grandchildren, Jeron Goodwin, MacKenzie Goodwin, Brittney Townsell, Courtney Townsell, Jerrah Littlefield, Dalton Littlefield, Andrew Littlefield, Kayla Richardson, Amber Richardson, Lacie Richardson, Melissa Patrick Youngblood, Madalyn Williams, Sydnee Fears, Lauren Fears, Haydden Fears, and Allisen Fears; soon to be great-grandchild Youngblood; her sisters, Delores Bobby Wilemon and Delilah Stringfellow; her brothers, James Betty Butler and John Renee Butler; her sister-in-law, Barbara Butler; a special niece Robbie Kovach; several nieces and nephews; and her special fur-baby, Bobo.

Special thanks to Covenant Hospice for the wonderful care that they provided to Mrs. Fears, especially Ms. Lynn and Ms. Bridget.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Jonathan Butler, Rick Littlefield, Rev. Kyle Robertson, Josh Sibley, Sam Wilemon, and Dewayne Williams.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Rev. JC Barbaree, Rev. Jerome Owens, Donald Harrelson, Terry Mullen, and all of Mrs. Fears’ grandsons.
