Kenneth Elmer Hitchcock

Kenneth Elmer Hitchcock, a resident of Midland City, passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday, September 17, 2020. He was 77 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday, September 21, 2020 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ricky Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 10-11 am.

Mr. Hitchcock was born on September 17, 1943 in Arkansas and lived the early years of his life in Wauchula, Florida. He moved to Midland City, Alabama where he has resided most of his life. Mr. Hitchcock was a professional truck driver for over 40 years until he retired at the age of 65. He drove all over the United States, Canada, and Mexico and prided himself on never using GPS. Mr. Hitchcock was a straightforward person, always letting you know where you stood with him. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored. He would hide stuffed animals in the trees just for them.

Mr. Hitchcock was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Hitchcock Craig, by his father, Elmer Riley Hitchcock, his daughter, Kathy Johnson, and his 3 brothers, Frank Hitchcock, Daniel Hitchcock, and Billy Akins.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Betty Hitchcock; his son, Kenneth "Earl" (Anitra) Hitchcock; his daughter, Shelia (Jack) Johnson; his 7 grandchildren, David (Brandi) Kaperak, Waylon (Emily) Johnson, Christy (Josh) Strain, Adam (Chelsea) Johnson, Daniel (Jessica) Hitchcock, William (Cherisa) Hitchcock, and Lynn Hitchcock; his 14 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Wanda Tennes, Dianne Sisson, Patsy Johnson, and Linda (Tony) Monk; his brothers, Dwight (Brenda) Akins, Elnita Hitchcock, Doyne (Paulette) Hitchcock, and Eddie Akins; and a host of nieces and nephews.
