Lamar Martin

July 12, 1946 — February 4, 2009

Lamar Martin, a resident of Dothan passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 62.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2009 at Sunset Memorial Park with Rev. Matt Mobley officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009 at Sunset Memorial Park.

Mr. Martin was born on July 12, 1946 in Donalsonville, GA and moved to Dothan at an early age. He was employed as a welder, fitter and inspector most his working life working with AESCO Steel Co. and later with Qualico Steel, E&H Steel and also with Tri-State Machine Shop as a quality control inspector. He enjoyed spending time playing music with his family. He was a self-taught musician playing several instruments and loved astronomy. His family meant the most to him.

Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents, Judge Hilliard Martin and Minnie Mae Martin; his sisters, Vela Mae Alberson, Mamie Sue Battles, Addie Pearl Fleming, Fannie Myrl Tillery and Minnie Lou Donaldson; a brother Edward Earl “Buddy” Martin.

Survivors include his children, Andy Heather Martin of Dothan, Greg Martin of Midland City, Becky Eric Terry of Headland, Carla Kevin Harvill of Dothan; sisters, Dovie Lee James Lingo of Dothan, Shirley Jean Eddie Hobbs of Dothan; a brother James Byrl Mary Martin of Dothan; grandchildren, Johnathon Martin, Aaron Martin, Cameron Terry, Collin Terry, Connor Little Buddy Terry, Christopher Martin, Damian Appling, Dakota Little Lamar Harvill; step-grandchildren, Stephanie Harvill, Jeremy Harvill; several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to extend a special thank you to his caregivers for their love and support over the past several months.
