Larry Grimsley

Larry Grimsley, 65, a resident of Midland City passed away Thursday, October 16, 2014 peacefully at SEAMC with his wife, brother, children, family and friends surrounding him.

Services of Remembrance will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 24, 2014 at Wings of Deliverance Community Church in Headland, AL with Elder James E. Bowers, Pastor and Evangelist Eric Minniefield officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Funeral Home. Flowers are being accepted or memorial donations may be made to the Wings of Deliverance Community Church Building Fund.

Larry Grimsley was born to the late Paul Grimsley and Geneva Lindsay Grimsley in East Orange New Jersey on September 27, 1949. He departed this life on October 16, 2014.  In 1953 Larry and his brother Paul came to live with his Great Uncle and Aunt Jack L. Grimsley and Willie Lee Grimsley in Haleburg Alabama.  He joined the Oakey Grove Community Church  at an early age and later became a member of Wings of Deliverance. He received his early childhood education in Haleburg, and Newville RosenWald School. He graduated from Northside High School Headland, Al. in 1968.  After graduating from High School he returned to New Jersey to attend Art School at Tulane Univ. and live with his biological  mother. He began work with Sokoben Glass Company where he was taught and learned the trade of a Glazier; cutting glass, building windows, and making screens. He was employed with  C. & J. Glass in North Arlington, NJ. And Cranford Glass in Newark, N.J. He returned back to Alabama in 1985 when his Great Uncle who had raised him became ill and passed away. Larry never returned to Newark, New Jersey and he united in Holy Matrimony to his childhood sweetheart Ms. JoAnn Minniefield on July 1st. 1986. After marriage he was born into membership of Wings of Deliverance Community Church. He worked with Dothan Glass for a few years and later owned and operated Midland City Glass and Daleville Glass.  He was employed with AFS for over 10 years, a retired member of local Lodge #2003 IAM.  Larry retired on October 5, 2012 as an Armament Technician, he loved his work and he was all about safety. He loved to laugh and joke, but most of all he loved his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Great Uncle and Aunt, and his canine friends Pepper, and Jake.

He leaves to mourn and cherish his memories: His loving and devoted wife of 28 years: JoAnn Grimsley, Midland City, Al. one daughter, Neysa Enid Grimsley, Newark, NJ. Adopted daughter, Nassiah Grimsley, Adopted Son, Justice Grimsley both of Midland City, one step-daughter Bridgett Bennett of Midland City, Al. Step-grandson Jo-El Bennett, Troy, Al. one Brother: Paul Lisa Grimsley of Virginia Beach, Va. One Sister Bernadette Hargrove of Pensacola, Fl., nine 9  grandchildren: Ashton Grimsley, Brian Grimsley, Nasir Grimsley, Nalasia Jones, Elijah Jones, Farrakah Jones, Danasia Jones,, Nixon Jones, and Yuseth Archer all of Newark, New Jersey; 2 Brothers-in-Laws Robert Lee Cynthia Minnifield Westbury L. I., New York, and Evangelist Amos Dee End Minniefield; Hollis NY, Sisters-in Laws: Barbara Minniefield, Headland, Al., Sara Pastor Charles Waldrop, Jasper, Al.; Darlene Minniefield, Florence, Al. Best Friend, Samuel Barbara Hollis, Midland City; God-sons: Frankey Daniele Peterman, Ozark, Al. Jimmy Culbreath, Midland City, David Hamilton, Coco, Fl. god-daughters Samantha Peterman Sewell, Pamalia Wesson, Carmen McKinnon, & Lori Condrey. Sisters-in-Laws Betty Grimsley, Millie Minniefield and the mother of his daughter, Lydia Morales, Newark, NJ., a special cousin June Lindsey, Highpoint, NC., a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, friends, his extended family; Peterman and Condrey families and the entire Wings of Deliverance Church Family. His canine friends Lily, Coco & Logan. He was Uncle Larry to many.
