Larry Lee McDaniel, 71, of Panama City, FL passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Bay Medical Center.

Funeral services will be 11 am Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. McDaniel was born October 23, 1940 in Peoria, IL to M.G. and Jean McDaniel and was raised in Effingham, IL. At the age of 17 he joined the U.S. Air Force and following basic training was stationed in Wichita, KS where he met and married Alice Clow. To this union 2 children were born, Douglas and Debra. He had 12 different assignments overseas, state side and a number of T.D.Y.'s Temporary Duty Assignments. He retired as a Master Sergeant after 20 years of service and went to work in the oil fields where he monitored drilling and lithology reports. He moved to Dothan where he was part owner of Mister Jay's Family Steakhouses for several years. He then started a water softener business and also worked for the City of Dothan in the lab where he retired from due to his health. Larry moved to Panama City in 2009. He was preceded in death by his father M.G. McDaniel, his mother and step-father John and Jean Hampton, and 2 sisters, Kay McMahon and Rita Smith.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years Alice Louise McDaniel of Panama City; a son Douglas Lee Donna McDaniel of Panama City, FL; a daughter Debra Louise Paul Draper of Tallahassee, FL; step-mother Leona McDaniel; brothers, Scott and Tim McDaniel of Bloomington, IL; several other family members and friends also survive.
