Laurette Henson Long

Laurette Henson Long, a resident of Dothan passed away on Friday, March 20, 2009 at her residence. She was 74.

Mrs. Long was born December 5, 1934 in Cleveland, Mississippi and she resided the early years of her life in Greenville, Mississippi. She was a 1957 Graduate of Mississippi University for Women and in 1967 she received her Master’s Degree in Library Science from University of Mississippi. Mrs. Long served as librarian for over thirty-five years and worked at Troy State University Dothan campus from 1978 until her retirement in 1993. She was a member of the American Librarian Association, Southeastern Librarian Association and the Alabama Librarian Association. Mrs. Long also served as a volunteer with RSVP at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Wiregrass Humane Society, P.O. Box 1045, Dothan, Alabama 36303 or to Houston-Love Memorial Library New Building Fund, P.O. Box 1369, Dothan, AL 36302.Survivors include her daughter Gretchen Perry and her husband, Mickey, Pelham, AL; a sister, Tommye Stiles and her husband, Lee, Greenville, MS; Bobby R. Henson and his wife, Helen, Greenville MS; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
