Laurie Lynn Morris

May 9, 1935 — July 29, 2014

Laurie Lynn Morris, 79, a resident of Dothan went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at a local hospital.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 pm Sunday, August 3, 2014 at First Assembly of God of Dothan, 3615 West Main Street with Rev. John D. Reese and Rev. Johnny Brensfield officiating.  Burial will follow in Dothan City Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing.  The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Mrs. Morris was born on May 9, 1935 to the late Wilfred and Marie Benson and grew up in Geneva, Alabama.  She was very creative and loved music and drama.  She authored the words for the Geneva High School Alma Mater.  Mrs. Morris attended Huntington College and graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute Auburn University in 1957 with a major in drama and a minor in English.  While attending Auburn she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. After college she studied at the Pasadena Playhouse in Los Angeles, California. She returned to the Wiregrass and began working at WTVY-TV as the host of a daily program known as “Open House with Laurie Lynn”.  In 1959 she left the television business and married Arthur Morris, Jr.  They settled down in Dothan and raised four boys.

Mrs. Morris’s great passions were her Lord, her husband, children, grandchildren and her friends.  She loved to spend time with her family and sharing her faith with anyone that would listen.  She was always looking for an opportunity to help other people and was a friend and a mentor to hundreds of people that she came into contact with in the community.  She was a member of several prayer groups and supported several churches and Christian organizations.

Mrs. Morris was preceded in death by her parents, Wilfred and Marie Benson and her husband, Arthur Morris, Jr.

Survivors include a sister, Beverly Benson, Pensacola;  a brother, Joe Dan Benson, Dothan; four sons, Art, Dothan; Carlisle Lisa, Dothan; Benson, Clarksville, TN; Bill, Jackson, MS; three grandchildren: Caroline and Katie, Jackson, MS; Michael, Dothan; and many other extended family and friends.
