Lawrence W. Downes

Lawrence W. Downes, a resident of Dothan, Alabama, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, November 1, 2017. He was 78.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 2 pm in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob Gross officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

Mr. Downes was born on July 25, 1939 in Irvington, Illinois and moved to Dothan in 1983. He served in the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army. Mr. Downes loved Auburn football, piddling outdoors, family ancestry and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Frances Kitson Downes; his parents, James and Stella Mae Downes; and a sister, Sylvia Henson.

Survivors include his children, Scot (Annette) Downes, James Downes, Joyce (Geoff) Goodwin-Albert, Rhonda Ward, and Debbie Downes Parks; grandchildren, Jeremy Downes, Crystal Goodwin, Holly (Jason) King, Christie (Hunter) Ward, Brenton (Lori) Ward, Bessie Howell, Ashley (Timothy) Ward, Amanda (Travis) Stratton, Alex (Stephenie) Anderson, Erika (Spencer) Hill and Caitlin Parks; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Edith.
