Leonard Eugene Gene Hale, a resident of Midland City, died Wednesday evening, July 8, 2009, in Southeast Alabama Medical Center after an extended illness. He was 71.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2009, in the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerome Harbert and Rev. T.P. Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Friday. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Grimes Gospel Lighthouse Ministries or the family, 6547 E. Highway 134, Midland City, AL 36350.
Rev. Hale was a resident of Midland City where he owned and operated Supreme Pools of Dothan until 2007. He was also the founder and pastor of Grimes Gospel Lighthouse Worship Center in Grimes. Rev. Hale was a U. S. Army Veteran, having served as a Medic.
Rev. Hale was the son of the late Rev. S.L. and Daisy May Hale of Nashville, TN.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Shelton of Nashville, TN.
Survivors include his devoted loving wife, Margaret Hale of Midland City; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Kane Hale of Montgomery; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Bill Parsons of Ozark; a daughter and son-in-law, Delorace and Jerry Garrett of Hooks, TX; a daughter, Loretta Hensarling of Midland City; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Edmund Hale, Jerry Hale, Kenneth Hale, Joyce McFarlin, Hester Morgan, all of Nashville, TN.
