Leslie Summerford

July 2, 1935 — August 25, 2017

Our priceless gift stepped across the River Jordan to Heaven into joy unspeakable, Friday, August 25. Isaiah 55:12 was her go to verse– please write her name beside that verse in your Bible.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 27, 2017, Ashford City Cemetery with Father Peter Wong and Rev. Alan Bryan officiating.

Leslie was born July 2, 1935, in Gainesville, FL, and resided in Dothan, AL, most of her life. She was a graduate of Dothan High School and attended King College in Bristol, TN, and Emory University in Atlanta, GA. Headed home from Emory, December 1955, she met “Harry”. She loved to say “I met the love of my life on a Greyhound bus.” They were married in December 1956 and lived in Auburn while he finished school. They moved back to Dothan where she was employed with General Hospital serving as a surgical nurse, and also with Drs. Gordon Adkinson, Sam Jones and Roland Bridges at Southern Clinic. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity as well as the Gladiolus Garden Club with whom she shared years of love and laughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Marjorie Wilson, and a grandson, Gabriel Summerford.

Survivors include her husband, Harry Summerford; her children, Leigh (Randy M.) Taylor and Doug (Kathy) Summerford; her brother, Joe Wilson (Heather Pritchard); grandchildren, Jacob (Corinne) Summerford, Dana Summerford (Seth) Bowden, Camilla Summerford, Perry Summerford, Gavin Taylor, and Nicolett Butler; a great-grandchild, Quinn Bowden; a brother-in-law, George (Lynne) Summerford; sisters-in-law, Cindy (Stan) Aman, Patsey Smith, and Betty Summerford; many special nieces and nephews; faithful friends, Faye Forehand, Cathy Deese, Ilse Cantey, Carolyn Burgess, Jessie O'Neal, Betty Bauer, members of the Gladiolus Garden Club, and others too many to name. She wove everyone who crossed her path into her tapestry of love.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to niece Trisha Cash and loving caregivers Diane Welch and Syntha Helms.
