Levin Ham's laugh was enormous, trumped only in size by his heart. He loved completely and fully.
"I'm vild!" he quoted daily from his favorite movie "Open Season 2."
He was happiest when his home was packed with young people, who began visiting his two sons, but continued to come whether Jack and Brett were home or not.
Kenneth Levin Ham was born on October 30, 1968, to K.R. and Jeanelle Ham. He was greeted by an eager older sister, Simone, who quickly became his second mother, and a less-than-eager brother, Ricky. He spent his childhood roaming Henry County with Blaine Pitchford and a pack of rowdy yard young'uns. Growing up, he played football and baseball through graduation from Abbeville High School in 1987.
"I may not be a smart man," he quoted from "Forrest Gump," but he was.
He attended Wallace Community College and Alabama Aviation College, ultimately earning an associate's degree in electronics in 1990. In 1994, he received a BS in Environmental Science from Troy State University.
During this time, he married his high school sweetheart, Lori Bass, on March 14, 1992, at First Baptist Church in Abbeville. After living in Nashville, Charleston, and Opelika, they returned to Dothan in 2001. Levin worked at various manufacturers across the Wiregrass. Since 2014, he was an independent consultant in environmental, health, and safety, and he conducted audits across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
".. but I know what love is," completes the Forrest Gump quote.
Levin's love was demonstrated most with his family. He and Lori had two sons, Jack and Brett. They lost Jack in 2015, and his big heart broke. Brett remained his greatest joy.
Together with his boys, Levin enjoyed boating, skiing, biking, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, traveling, and cheering for their sports teams. Despite being an avid Tide fan, Levin loved The Plains and was excited Brett attended both universities. He was a longtime Boy Scout leader, and an on-and-off again Sunday School teacher at Covenant United Methodist Church.
The world is a brighter place for having attempted to hold Levin Ham.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Sammy Prim officiating.
