Lewis Hughes, 80 a former resident of Midland City died Sunday June 28, 2015 in Tallahassee, Florida.
Funeral services will be held 1pm Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eddie Littlefield officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 5pm until 7pm.
Mr. Hughes was born May 1, 1935 in Ashford, Alabama and lived there the early years of his life. He was employed as a truck driver for several years and later was employed as a carpenter with Pybus Construction Company. Mr. Hughes was later worked with DSI until his retirement in 2009. He was an avid fisherman, Nascar fan and enjoyed making knifes.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Hughes and his grandson, Jason Hughes, his mother and father and all of his siblings.
Survivors include his children, Johnny Hughes, Crawfordville, FL, Pat Craig Akins Tallahassee, Doug Patricia Hughes, Tallahassee, Wanda Mike Shoemaker, Jacksonville Beach, Florida, Randy April Hughes, Savannah, GA, Velvet Williams, Midland City, Jimmy Tracie Hughes, Crawfordville, Florida, Brandy Haisty Helms, Wicksburg, AL; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
