Lizzie M Thompson Murray

November 28, 1945 — November 27, 2024

Lizzie Thompson Murray, a beacon of unwavering faith and boundless generosity, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2024, just one day shy of turning 79, in her hometown of Dothan, Alabama. Born on November 28, 1945 to the late Gertrude and Floyd Thompson, Lizzie's life was a testament to the virtues of kindness, dedication, and love that she instilled in all those she touched.

Lizzie was a proud graduate of Essie R. Grimsley High School, where she laid the foundation for a life of service and community involvement. She spent many years contributing to the success of Ansell Manufacturing. After her tenure with Ansell, Lizzie embarked on a career of caring for others. She retired as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Extendicare, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and care that enriched the lives of many.

Her spirit of service extended beyond her professional life into her personal passions. Lizzie's devotion to her faith was unwavering. She symbolized her love and dedication to Jehovah by being baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on July 2, 1962. As a cherished member of the Wiregrass Congregation, Lizzie's faith-filled life was an inspiration to all who knew her.

A master of the kitchen, Lizzie's cooking was legendary, her recipes a cherished inheritance that will continue to bring comfort and joy to her family's table.

Lizzie's legacy is carried on by her loving children, Melissa (Rolando) LeDezma, Barry (Marian) Thompson, and Melena (Isaac) Brown. She was the proud matriarch of a large and flourishing family, including her grandchildren Donald Everhart, Curtis (Ebony) Brown, Angela (Markale Jackson) Beacham, Landis (Renae) Thompson, Denzel (Amanda Torres) Thompson, Kastopheus (Bella) Thompson, Keriston Richardson, and 14 great-grandchildren, who will miss their "Other Ma" deeply.

Her siblings, Willie (Mary Dean) Moore, Jeremiah (Shirley) Thompson, Joseph Thompson, Gertha Glover, Rosa Nix, and Floyd (Linda) Thompson, along with a special nephew, Terry (Theresa) Moore, who was like a brother to her, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, will fondly remember Lizzie's generous spirit and loving heart.

Lizzie was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Angela Everhart, her parents, Gertrude and Floyd Thompson, and her siblings, Mary Riggins, Martha Riggins, Pearlie Jackson, and Moses Thompson. Her memory will be cherished as a guiding light that continues to shine in the hearts of those she touched.

Described by those who knew her best as faith-filled, selfless, and generous, Lizzie lived a life that was rich not in material wealth, but in helping and serving others. Her absence will be deeply felt, but the example she set will continue to influence and inspire.

Lizzie's life will be remembered at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2627 East Cottonwood Road, Dothan, Alabama 36301.
