Lois Ruth Smith

Lois Ruth Smith, 81, a resident of Wausau, FL passed away on Monday, March 27, 2017 at a local hospital

A joint funeral service along with her son, Gregory Smith, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the First Church of God (Dawson Community Church on Dawson Cabin Road) in Jacksonville, NC with Rev. Ernest King officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Smith was born on November 4, 1935 in Chipley, FL and spent the early part of her life in Wausau, FL. She lived in Jacksonville, NC most of her life prior to returning to Wausau in 2006. She was employed as an elementary school teacher for nearly 20 years while living in Jacksonville where she was also a member of the First Church of God. Mrs. Smith was very creative and loved to write poetry and enjoyed traveling. She was preceded in death by her husband Herman Smith.

Survivors include her daughter, Heidi (Sascha) Benz; her sons, Randy Smith and Terry (Pam) Smith; her grandchildren, Ben Smith, Rachel Smith, Jackson Smith, Randy King, Tommy Ray King, Jennifer Andrews, Donald Smith, Sebi Benz, and Nico Benz; her brother, Curtis (Laverne) Spence; her sisters, Marvel (Roland) Tiller and Yvonne Jones; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
