Lorene Yelverton Lee, 88, of Dothan passed away Sunday, December 18, 2011 at her residence.
rnMemorial services will be held 10:30 am Thursday, December 22, 2011 at St. Columba Catholic Church with Father Patrick Gallagher officiating and Robert Byrd directing. rnMrs. Lee was born February 2, 1923 to Olden and Amy Broxton Yelverton in Coffee County, AL. Having moved to Dothan at an early age, she attended the Dothan School System through high school. She first attended Fort Valley State College located at Fort Valley, GA and graduated from Alabama State University. She was an active member of St. Columba Catholic Church and for many years following her retirement she volunteered at Catholic Social Services. Helping children was her lifelong passion, so becoming a teacher was inevitable. She retired from the Dothan City School System in 1984 with tenure of more than 38 years. Many of her summer vacation years were spent at Lincoln Community Center, now known as Belle Community Center, continuing her work with children. rnMrs. Lee was preceded in death by her loving and caring parents, Olden and Amy Yelverton, husband Ralph A. Lee, a brother Wylie C. Yelverton whose mutual love and respect they always shared, and a sister-in-law Clara Yelverton who she loved very much. rnCherishing her memory always, are a daughter Jacquelyn Lee Calvin Erwin; a grandson, Oscar Page; a goddaughter, Vera Carter; a god-granddaughter, Joi Blume; two devoted nephews, Andre’ Tenita Yelverton, and Alan Tina Yelverton all referred to her as Mother Dear; six grand nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends also mourn her loss.
