Louisa Nelson (Tucker) Grabau, 96, a resident of Dothan, AL passed away on Monday, December 26, 2016 at a local hospital.
Ms. Grabau was born 1 September 1920 in Danville, Virginia to John & Florence Tucker (both deceased). She was the oldest sister of Nancy (Tucker) Collins (deceased), Margret Tucker (deceased), and Harry Tucker of Richmond, VA. She married in 1953 to Myles Grabau (deceased in 1989), and is the mother of Mary Anne Butler-Torgrimson of Denver, CO and John Grabau of Raleigh, NC, and the grandmother of David Small of Skidmore, MO and Tucker Grabau of Raleigh, NC.
Ms. Grabau was a 1940 Graduate of UNC-Greensboro. Following graduation she served as civilian employee of the US Army at Ft. Knox, KY during WW-II. Later she taught at NCSU (’44-’48), University of Missouri (48-55), and Northwest Missouri College (55-60). She also served as a food & nutrition specialist with USDA Extension Service with Michigan State University in the 1960’s and with the University of Missouri in the 1970s and 1980s.
Death occurred on 26 December 2016 due to cardiovascular failure and cremation occurred in January 2017; graveside services are now planned to occur at the Tucker Family Plot in Danville VA at a currently undetermined Spring 2017 date.
“Mom, who went by Nelson, was a true Southern Lady. She believed strongly in dedication to family, manners, etiquette and education. She was a life-long active member of the Episcopal Church and gave her daughter the name of her father’s sister, a Deaconess in the Episcopal Church.
