Louise Darley Poitevint, a resident of Dothan passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2009, at Westside Terrace. She was 91.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at Memory Hill Cemetery with Dr. Johnny Fain and Rev. Bob Gross officiating and Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the Poitevint home, 103 Camellia Drive, from 12:30-1:30 pm on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Dothan, 300 W. Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301, or to the Key Club Foundation c/o the Kiwanis Club of Dothan, PO Box 5569, Dothan, AL 36302.Mrs. Poitevint was born on September 11, 1917 to Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Darley in Mitchell County, Georgia. She married Dr. Coy H. Poitevint in 1940 and moved to Dothan in 1943. Mrs. Poitevint along with her husband owned and operated Poitevint Veterinary Clinic in Dothan for over 50 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Dothan since 1943, worked with both the Girl Scouts and 4H Clubs, served on numerous committees of Dothan Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Dothan Service League, past President of Pilot Club, a founder of the Dothan Azalea-Dogwood Trail in 1962 and past Chairman for 13 years, past President of Dothan Federation of Garden Clubs, past Board member of the Helen Keller Foundation for the Blind, former President of the State Veterinary Auxiliary, 1973 Dothan Woman of the Year, past board member of the National Peanut Festival, a longtime officer in the Alabama Soil and Water Conservation Auxiliary, and the recipient of the Kiwanis Club’s George F. Hixon Award.Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Dr. Coy H. Poitevint of Dothan; her brother, Crawford Darley of Dawson, Georgia; her 5 nephews and 2 nieces, William C. Darley, Jr. of Pine Mountain, GA, D. Ashley Darley of Dawson, GA, Stephen P. Poitevint of Bainbridge, GA, Alec Poitevint of Bainbridge, GA, Angela Taylor of Macon, GA, Lynn Lee of Tifton, GA, and James Dupree of Pine Lake, GA; and 15 great nephews and nieces also survive.Serving as active pallbearers will be William D. Darley, Jr., D. Ashley Darley, Stephen P. Poitevint, Alec Poitevint, James Dupree, and Dr. Ken Clark. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
