Loyd V Sharpe

August 28, 1934 — November 23, 2019

Loyd Vincil Sharpe, a resident of Dothan, Alabama passed away at his residence on Saturday, November 23, 2019. He was 85. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at 11:45 am in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Father Patrick Gallagher officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. A Rosary Service will be held at 10:30 am on the day of the service in the funeral home chapel. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11-11:45 on Thursday. Loyd was born on August 28, 1934 in Shelbina, MO and lived his early years in Durham and Ewing, MO. Mr. Sharpe served in the US Army from 1954-1956 as a radio operator. After graduating college with a degree in education, he taught for 38 years, mostly in the Kirkwood Missouri Schools. He loved coaching boys' and girls' basketball, volleyball and other sports. After he retired from teaching, he worked as the bookkeeper for his son for eight years. He was married to Kathy Sharpe for 51 years. Loyd enjoyed his children and grandchildren especially chasing them around the playground and playing "Bear". In his last years, he relished driving our tractor, caring for the sheep and participating in Fantasy Football. Loyd was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Mary Sharpe; his sisters, Georgia Felter and Mary Lillard; and his brothers, Darrell Sharpe, Virgil Sharpe and John R. Sharpe. Survivors include his wife, Kathaleen Sharpe; his sons, Derek (Jennifer) Sharpe, Deron (Stephanie) Sharpe, Dwayne Sharpe and Darrell (Sarah) Sharpe; His grandchildren, Morgan, Sophia, Madison, Jackson, Gentry, Spencer, Mason, Christian, Logan and Georgia Katherine; his sister, Nina J. McKenzie and his brother, Gary D. Sharpe. Burial Date December 5, 2019 Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at 11:45 am in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Father Patrick Gallagher officiating.
