Mae Matthews Salisbury

April 19, 1947 — March 16, 2025

Mae Matthews Salisbury, a beacon of kindness and selflessness, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025, in Dothan, Alabama, at the age of 77. Born on April 19, 1947, in Boston, Massachusetts, Mae grew up in Maine, where her early life was marked by her grace as a majorette and her musical talent as a pianist. Her gentle spirit and dedication to caring for others defined her life's work and passions.

Mae's professional journey as a Registered Nurse was one of admirable commitment and achievement. She provided compassionate care and healing hands at Flowers and Southeast Hospitals. Her dedication to nursing and her desire to improve the lives of others didn't stop at the hospital doors. Mae's entrepreneurial spirit led her to start two Home Health Agencies, extending her care to those who needed it within the comfort of their own homes. Upon retiring at the age of 62 in the sunny state of Florida, Mae continued to touch lives through her written words, authoring two books, "The Journey, The Great Sword of Truth" and "The Remnant”.

Mae's love for her family was the centerpiece of her world. She is survived by her loving children, Rob Salisbury (Jean), Steve Salisbury (Jeana), and Sue Gilliland (Jim). Her legacy of love and kindness lives on through her grandchildren, Sarah Patterson (Britt), Jennifer Salisbury, Rachel Salisbury, Emma Salisbury, Abby Salisbury, Quinn Gilliland, and Ainslee Gilliland, who will forever cherish the memories and lessons imparted by their beloved grandmother. Her brothers, Scott Emery, Doug Emery, and Donald Emery, along with her brother-in-law, Larry Netter, and her niece and nephew, Jessica Emery and Chris Netter, will remember Mae as a guiding light and a source of unwavering support.

Mae rejoins her late parents, Robert and Shirley Emery, and her sister, Sue Netter, leaving behind a legacy of the love and care she bestowed upon everyone she met.

Mae's interests painted a picture of a woman with a zest for life and a heart full of joy. Her canine companions were never far from her side, and her love for her dogs was a testament to her nurturing soul. From the streets of Boston to the shores of Maine, Mae carried with her the spirit of her birthplace and the values instilled in her during her formative years.
