Marie Hughes

Marie Hughes, 74, of Dothan died Saturday, February 5, 2011 at her residence.

Services will be 10 am Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011 at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Ricky Plummer and Rev. Wallace Russell officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Monday at the funeral home.Mrs. Hughes was born June 11, 1936 in Houston County and resided in Dothan all of her life. She was employed with S & H Kress, Warners, and J.C. Penney until her retirement in 1994. Mrs. Hughes was a member of the Master Gardener’s Club and the Rose Society. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and was a volunteer through the church, RSVP, and the Dothan Diplomats. Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her husband Billy Ray Hughes, her parents John Wesley Varnum and Toy Howell Varnum, and her sister Mary Lizzie Brackin.Survivors include her son Andy Hughes and his wife Eve of Ashford; her daughter Angela Gray of Dothan; 5 grandchildren, Caleb Hughes, Joiner Hughes, Cody Hughes, Oliver Gray, and Billy Gray; a brother Roy Cobb and his wife Evelyn of Dothan; 3 sisters, Ruby Mae Mixon of Dothan, Minnie Bell Hall of Dothan, and Hazel Peterman and her husband Harold of Dothan.The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the Agape Sunday School Class from Bethel Baptist Church, Wiregrass Hospice, Dr. Rafael Mayor and his staff for all of their love and support.
