Marjorie Gertrude Palmer

July 15, 1924 — March 29, 2017

Marjorie Gertrude Palmer, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017. She was 92.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 am on Saturday, April 1, 2017 in St. Columba Catholic Church Chapel with Rev. Patrick Gallagher officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. There will be a prayer service at 6 pm on Friday, March 31 at Sunset Memorial Park. Flowers are being accepted or memorial donations may be made to St. Columba Catholic Church, 2700 West Main Street, Dothan, AL 36303.

Mrs. Palmer was born on July 15, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY. Marjorie graduated with honors from St. John’s University in Brooklyn with an accounting degree. She worked as an accountant in New York City, attending night school to earn a teaching degree. Marjorie married and moved to the Panama Canal Zone in 1953. She taught 3rd grade at Coco Solo Elementary School for many years before retiring in 1981 and moving to Dothan.

Mrs. Palmer was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Palmer, her parents, Gertrude and George Hearn, her brother, Edward Hearn, and by her nephew, John Hearn.

Survivors include her daughters, Louise (Fred) Hause, Austin, TX and Maryann (Michael) Bross, Tampa, FL; her grandchildren, Louis (Melanie) Hause and Laura Hause (Ryan) McGowen; and her great-grandchildren, Adeline McGowen and Aubrey McGowen.
