Marlin Eugene Hammond, 73, of Newton passed away Saturday, August 6, 2011 at a local hospital.
rnFuneral services will be held 2 pm Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. rnMr. Hammond was born August 30, 1937 in Orlando, FL and lived in Florala, AL and Point Washington, FL the early part of his life. He joined the U.S. Navy and served for 8 years. He resided in Bisbee, AZ prior to moving to Dothan in 1977 and was employed as a semi- truck driver and later with Pemco until his retirement. Mr. Hammond was a member of Cherokee of Southeast Alabama, he was a Mason and a member of the American Legion. rnSurvivors include his wife JoAnn Hammond of Newton; sons, Mark Hammond Melissa of Newton and Edward Hammond Helen of Unalaska, Alaska; a daughter Skyi Pass Arnold of Newton; grandchildren, Reggie Hammond, Jennifer Hammond, Kiel Hammond, and Shane Allen Hammond; step-grandchildren, Rikki Williams, Jr., Jeremy Williams, and Ryan Morrison; a brother David Hammond of Marianna, FL; sisters, Juanita Parker of Holly Hill, SC and Dorothy Anderson of Andalusia, AL; a uncle Mack Hammond of Daleville; a cousin Linda Davis of Newton; several nieces and nephews also survive.
