Mary P. Carpenter, 88, of Dothan passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at a local hospital.
Funeral Services will be 11am Friday, May 2, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Ashford City Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Wiregrass Hope Group, 171 Westgate Pkwy., Dothan, AL, 36303.
Mrs. Carpenter was born November 27, 1925 in Headland and lived the early part of her life there. She moved to Ashford in 1946 and resided there for 33 years before moving to Dothan in 1979. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by Paul Carpenter, Sr. her husband of 51 years, and her son Greg Carpenter. She was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church where she taught the Mary Carpenter Sunday School Class for many years. She also volunteered as a counselor at the Wiregrass Hope Group Sav-a-Life.
Survivors include her sons, Philip Carpenter and his friend Daryl White and Paul Cindy Carpenter, Jr.; a daughter Amy Vance Fallin; grandchildren, Heath Jerri Carpenter, Yancy Joy Carpenter, Mary Hannah Carpenter, Parker Carpenter, Paul Fallin, Hope Fallin, and William Fallin; great-grandchildren, Matthew Carpenter, Dylan Carpenter, Mason Curl, and Madelyn Lightle; step-grandchildren, Kiley Lightle, Elizabeth Lightle, and Joshua Lightle; a sister-in-law Nell Jackson; several nieces and nephews also survive.
