Mary Elizabeth Phillips, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in Dothan, Alabama, on July 18, 2023. Born in Columbus, Georgia, on September 24, 1941, to Curtis and Ruth Sumrall, Mary was a beacon of love, faith, and selflessness throughout her 81 years of life.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Harold Phillips, and her brother, James Sumrall. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Harriet (Frank) Bissette, her cherished grandson, Randy (Laura) Bissette, and her adored great-grandson, Luke Randall Bissette. Each of these family members will remember Mary for her unending love, her empathetic nature, and her ability to brighten any room with her warm hugs and caring spirit.

Mary's life journey led her from her birthplace in Columbus, GA, to Montgomery, AL, where she resided until 1968. She then moved to Andalusia upon marrying her husband, Harold. In 2011, she settled in Dothan, AL, where she spent her remaining years surrounded by her loved ones.

Mary's passion for helping others was evident in her professional life. She dedicated herself to a career in nursing, bringing comfort and care to countless individuals throughout her years of service. Her empathetic and sympathetic nature, coupled with her professional skills, made her a beacon of hope and solace for those she attended to.

Beyond her professional pursuits, Mary was an avid collector of antiques and an accomplished seamstress. She found joy in the history and stories behind each antique piece she collected, and her sewing skills were a testament to her patience and attention to detail. Her love for these hobbies was only surpassed by her love for her family and her faith.

Mary's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a woman of deep spiritual conviction, and her faith guided her in every aspect of her life. Her selfless nature and her unwavering belief in the goodness of others served as an inspiration to all who knew her.

Funeral Services will be held at 12 pm on Friday, July 21, 2023, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor James Barnes officiating. Burial will follow in Babbie Baptist Church Cemetery in Opp, AL. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 am - 12 pm on Friday, July 21, 2023 prior to the service.
